Eddie Chacon - Lay Low

Lay Low is Eddie Chacon's quietest, most direct record since he reemerged from two decades of silence, eight songs about grief finding somewhere to land.

Chacon spent the early 90s as half of Charles & Eddie, whose Would I Lie to You? became an inescapable hit before Charles Pettigrew's death in 2001 and Chacon's own long disappearance from music entirely. He resurfaced in 2020 with Pleasure, Joy and Happiness, produced by John Carroll Kirby, and has spent the years since refining that hushed, soft-pop register into something entirely his own. This 2025 record, produced by Nick Hakim, is the leanest version yet, under thirty minutes and built around restraint rather than accumulation.

Good Sun opens the album at its most tender, barely there production leaving Chacon's voice fully exposed. Empire brings John Carroll Kirby back into the fold for one of the record's warmest turns, while Birds, produced with Nick Hakim's direct involvement and featuring his vocals, sits at the album's emotional centre. End of the World closes things with the quiet devastation the title promises, no big gesture, just acceptance.

A short record from someone who took the long way back to making one at all. Every minute of it feels earned.
